REVIEW: Ten By Gretchen McNeil

Summary:
SHHHH!
Don't spread the word!
Three-day special weekend. Party at White Rock House on Henry Island.
You do NOT want to miss it.

It was suppose to be the weekend of their lives - an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie each have their reasons for being there (which involve T.J., the school's most eligible bachelor) and look forward to three glorious days of boys, booze and fun-filled luxury.

But what they expect is definitely not what they get, and what starts out as fun turns dark and twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine.

Suddenly people are dying, and with a storm raging, the teens are cut off from the outside world. No electricity, no phones, no internet, and a ferry that isn't scheduled to return for two days. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on each other, can Meg find the killer before more people die? Or is the killer closer to her than she could ever imagine?

Review:
Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! OH MY GOSH!
This has been one of the creepiest and most amazing books I have read in ages. I have always loved a horror, mystery book. It had me staying up all night and looking inside my wardrobe just waiting for someone to jump out... creepy is an understatement!

The cover is simple but extremely effective, it gave such a uninhabited and secluded vibe as if they were all by themselves and in ways, they were. Its so dark and mysterious it instantly jumped out at me and I could not wait to read it. But to get the full affect you must read at night, it is truly horrifyingly terrifying.

It begins with a group of teenagers who get invited by the most 'popular girl ever', whom of which you would never turn down a party invitation from even if it is on a secluded island, all by themselves. Okay, sounds harmless enough, however we are instantly pushed into a whirlwind of storms and disappearances of which would instantly send you running... yet they can't. To pass the time they watch a home-made video (lets just say, I will never watch one again). As murders become apparent to be more then an accident or suicide, the teens begin to turn on each other in a mass of accusations, pain and destruction. As ten becomes nine, to eight, to seven, to six, to five... you get the point, they begin to panic and would go against anyone, even the ones they love.

Meg was our protagonist, not the most popular teen in the world she is known for running the school newspaper and being best friends with Minnie. However she is a very likeable character, she cares and always looks out for those around her ESPECIALLY for Minnie (I HOPE YOUR READING THIS MINNIE!) She is also quick to put her brain into action, to figure out the murders and piece the clues together. Then we have Minnie, lets just say she over-reacts a lot. Also, always controlling Meg is one thing but to then throw it in her face like a piece of rubbish... not cool, not cool at all. Meg is constantly changing her decisions and circling her life around Minnie to not upset her and is purposefully moving miles away from her, just to make a new life for herself. We then have T.J., to be honest, I didn't really know what to think of him. He was a great character and you could easily see how much he cared for Meg, he was also very calm when dealing with the murders, he was constantly trying to help solve the mystery and working his-socks-off to mainly get them off the island as quick and safely as possible. However, there was just something that made you contemplate as to whether he was involved with the murders or not...

The plot was amazingly engaging and I felt myself wanting more and more, it instantly pulled me in and as soon as I put the book down, my mind was turning over and over all information received to figure out the murderer and the array of messages (especially through school, that was a big struggle to keep my brain on physics instead of the puzzles in the book). The ending was also brilliant, such tension and suspense it had me on the edge of my chair as if I was going to run and help.

This book is full of horror, suspense and of course, mystery! It will keep your mind ticking and make you feel as if you have a time limit to read the book. It had a mass of secret passages and background stories to keep you going back to square one, and of course... you can trust no-one.

I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it.
