Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.

The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy class president, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.

But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…

Fun, comical and dangerous; this novel will have you laughing out loud whilst contemplating how you would escape the zombie apocalypse! When I requested Donna of the Dead the cover had yet to be released, meaning the title and summary instantly had me captivated. I definitely love the cover though, it instantly stands out and the zombies in the background make me giggle.

Donna Pierce can hear voices in her head, she doesn't know why or the trigger for them, all she knows is they are extremely bossy. But when they save her life as their ship becomes overrun with zombies, Donna and Deke find refuge inside their high school. They are safe for a few days, but as resources begin to dwindle they must take risks to escape… before they come in.

Donna is a fun character whom can definitely make you laugh, but alongside these she was a rather rude character and extremely self-centred which made her highly unlikable. I did love the character of Deke, he was clever, kind and caring, consistently looking out for those around him. Furthermore he was someone whom everyone liked and got along with, but didn't care about his level of popularity. Additionally I loved the secondary character of Veronica, her confidence grew throughout the novel with her leadership and intellectual skills blossoming she was an incredibly likeable character.

Donna of the Dead was full of awesome gadgets and weapons plus a few twists that could not have been predicted. This was an enjoyable read, except for the character of Donna. And the ZOMBIES! Definitely brilliant and imaginative.
