The Selection began with thirty-five girls.
Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?

America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.
Oh dear. This book had the middle-book problem, and have now started to understand the dislike towards America. But just look at the cover, just look at it.

America is now part of the Elite, one of six girls still fighting for Maxon's heart. However, America must finally make her choice, Maxon or Aspen? But with the impending threat of rebels, they must decide if their love is stronger than their need to survive.

America, oh America. She REALLY annoyed me in this novel. In the The Selection I could not understand why people disliked her, yes somethings she did may have caused that opinion but I could not see it. Though in this novel, oh my. She would not stop going on about whether Maxon liked her or not. Would. Not. Stop. Then on the side she had Aspen, who was being rather silly and risking his life to see her. However at one point America would be worrying whether Maxon still liked her or not, followed by her claiming her love for Aspen. I mean seriously, she made her decision a lot more difficult for herself. America also exaggerated things way too much, and though she showed some bravery during the events which included Marlee and her project, she did not think about the consequences this would cause for others. It was all drama, drama, drama. America always acted on instinct and never thought about anything, and went on and on and on and on... you get the point.

The plot of this novel was okay, but I felt it was a mirror of the first novel. However the invasions of the rebels was what really annoyed me, I swear they were just randomly thrown in one after another, it was just too much. Additionally nothing really happened, it was exactly the same as the first novel. The only characters I liked were America's maids and Marlee. They were rather refreshing characters who certainly make you smile. Otherwise the rest of the contestants just make you angry and constantly roll your eyes.

Overall, I was not a fan of this novel. However I am hoping the third book will redeem this series. And I just found out about the fourth novel. Spoilers much, you do not even need to read the blurb.
